Jamaican Cornmeal Porridge

One of the popular breakfast meals of Jamaica is Cornmeal Porridge which is creamy, tastes delicious and is vey easy to make.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup fine yellow cornmeal
  • 3 cups of water
  • 1 cup coconut milk
  • 1⁄4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1⁄2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1⁄2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons condensed milk or sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

How to Make it

1. Step

Mix cornmeal in cup of water and set aside.

2. Step

Bring the remaining two cups of water and milk to boil and stir in the cornmeal mixture and salt.

3. Step

Cook for about 10-15 mins (keep stirring with a wooden spoon or whisk to prevent any lumps.)

4. Step

Add nutmeg, cinnamon, vanilla and sweetened condensed milk (or sugar).

5. Step

Serve hot in a bowl as it is or with fruits and nuts of your liking.
